I have some really exciting news to tell you all! I volunteer in the online retail department for a Norfolk based Charity, Priscilla Bacon Hospice. A Norfolk based charity supporting end of life, palliative care to Cancer patients. We have linked with Re-Do Norfolk to take part in a Fashion Show, and I’m super chuffed to be heading up the fashion show for Priscilla Bacon! The overriding ethos of the event to highlight the reuse and recycle benefits of using charity shops. And specifically using them to complete your outfit for any occasion. You can literally get “everything but the pants” from your local charity shops!
There will be four themes and I am creating outfits from items that sell in our high street and online retail shops, and I’ve lined up friends, family and colleagues to model for us! Alongside this there is a “Go Wild” outfit. This outfit is being created by Online Retail Office Manager Rebecca, and NUA student Annabel, and is going to be worn by our wonderful model Claire.
As well as the fashion show, we will also be having a pop-up shop, where you can buy items we would normally have in our shops.
There will be lots of things to get involved in, workshops to learn ways of recycling clothes, watching catwalk shows from 6 charities showcasing their donated stock, there will also be the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets to win prizes from the charities.
In keeping with my art practice I have produced a piece of art that will be added to the Raffle prize pot. This piece is painted in Acrylics on a Canvas Board, approx 16×12″
The artwork brings together the colours of Priscilla Bacon Hospice brandings, along with the emotions felt during treatment, and during end of life care for the patients. I personally have lost loved ones through cancer, experienced their lights and darks, and for me this piece of art represents some of what I saw in them. It was also painted at a time, when my own sister is receiving treatment for cancer, so I believe some of my own feelings are in this piece too. I hope that the recipient enjoys it as much as I enjoyed painting it and having it on the wall in my art studio.
Please come and join us if you can on Sunday 18th September 2022, Noon-1700
