My Etsy store has launched!

The question of should I / shouldn’t has been debated for a while.  Should I open a shop to sell some of the journals I am turning out instead of just storing them in a box once they are made.

Hubby and I have been talking back and forth with the question and the possibilities and practicalities of it all.  He has very carefully guided me, not telling me what I should do, wanting me to come to my own decision rather than forcing me in one direction or another. It’s my art, and so it’s my decision is very much his motto.  He does, and will always help enormously with the practical side of things, but the doing side is definitely my part of the equation.

After all the talking I have realised that unless I do something, it will always remain just talk. So I decided that I would create the site and list some items and they could just sit there and if I get lucky I might sell something.

So of course, being the person that I am, once I decided to do it I absolutely had to do it there and then.  I decided on Etsy because it appears to be the lowest risk option that is out there for the novice.  I really wanted to use a UK based site, however none of them are particularly well known and have a higher startup cost.  Using Etsy, at this time, is going to cost me very little in terms of setup costs. In fact within an afternoon I had created the site and added 6 journals for sale!

Does this mean I am a small business owner now? I have no idea what it actually means in terms of practicality and longevity, but it’s there and we shall see what happens!

You can access it by clicking on the picture above, but more importantly there is a permanent link on the title bar, and of course my LinkTree is set up to include it too and that is broadcast on all my social media outlets.

Oh golly gosh 2021 is turning into a big year for me, I turned 50, I’ve launched this web page, a YouTube channel and now an Etsy store! I think I’m becoming more than “just” a hobby artist  – this growing up malarkey is kinda fun isn’t it 🙂

I’d love for you to take a look and let me know your thoughts.

  1. Congratulations! This is great new. The new shop looks very nice, too. Your journals are so pretty! (Also, apologies if I comment twice–I tried to connect via FB the way I usually do, but it’s having issues).

  2. Congratulations and the best of luck with your new venture!

  3. Oh yay for you!!! I’m so excited and happy for you!! Congrats on the Etsy shop!
I know what you mean about all the talking and not doing. Been there, done that, still doing that
    with some things.
Wishing you much success on your new adventure!! ((HUGS))

  4. Congrats on your new shop Donna, I hope it goes well for you. It is still the way to go for simple set up and more traffic though their fees are getting a bit ridiculous now. I opened my first etsy shop in 2008 which was also the same time as Folksy started up in the UK, so if you were looking for a UK based platform you could try them. Elle xx

Thank you Elle, I really appreciate the recommendation to Folksy, I had looked at them a while ago. I’ve had traffic but no bites yet, thats OK, im sure its going to take time and I need to promote it more. we will get there 🙂

      1. yeah it will take time, and it is easy to get lost in the volume of stuff there is for sale on etsy. I can’t remember the figures now but it is something ridiculous like 2 million shopkeepers on there lol Elle xx

  5. Congrats! So exciting! I’m off to see it!
