Last day, but not the last blog!

I have absolutely loved being a part of the blog along hosted by Effy. Its been great to catch up with friends from the previous blog, and make new friends on this one. The last week has slowed my ability to participate, however I shall stay with the group and catch up on as many posts as I can, and remain reading them in the future.

I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone that has read the blog, contributed to it and laterly followed me on my new Instagram account.

Today has been a full on 1-2-1 homeschooling session. We have had a hit and miss day of achievements. I really enjoyed the music lesson, where we had to find two differing pieces of music and assess them. I chose the first Genre “Rock” and he chose the second Genre “Techno”.

Don McLean – American Pie
Techno is Fantasy, by Techno, Written by Ron Pik

I admit that my choice is a classic, and he really should (and did) know and like it because we play it often enough! However he chose Techno, its a genre we don’t listen to (and apparently with good reason!) However the piece we happened upon wasn’t actually all that bad.

We also had a science lesson on Magnetic fields and Static Electricity. An interesting lesson, that perhaps could have gone better.

French today was a partial success where we had to learn about reading books, and learning opinions. Honestly, this lesson could have gone better, but it could have been a lot worse!! I do very much accept I am NOT a teacher and so this does not come easily to me.

School finished at 3 pm, it couldnt have come soon enough, he went to his room and I went to my art desk. I lost myself in an art tutorial from Karen Campbell. She is doing a week long (paid) class learning to upcycle a record cover with her “hotdog” system of layering mixed media to produce an Art Deco Diva. I’ve been so excited to do this course, and this week has left me feeling completely uninspired to do anything. Even writing the blog has been something I haven’t wanted to do.

Well, I’m signing off from this month long blog. I have enjoyed it, its gone in directions I didn’t expect. I hope to get back to being more “arty” within my writings going forward. I shall be aiming to blog once a week. Maybe more if I have something exciting to tell you.

So, thank you everyone, its been a blast.

Rebuilding

Oh gosh who knew that rebuilding your social media life could be so much hard work!

I have completely lost my whole Instagram art account. Nothing I have tried has got me my account back. Instagram are ignoring all and every request for help. They have not made any contact via email at all. I can go through 2 step verification but then get told the account is disabled, still with no email! So I have decided that to calm my growing angst, I would have to bite the bullet and start again. That wont be so hard right…? WRONG!

I had not realised how much I had linked with Instagram, and not only that how many passwords I would have to reset in order to manage everything. So in amongst a full day of homeschooling I have been rebuilding my art IG account, and therefore life!!!!

So here we are, my new Instagram account

Donna_Creative_Space Please, if you liked my account before, and you want to keep seeing my stuff, please come and follow me, I will follow you back. I have to rebuild the community.

Todays home schooling was all about Science. so I am better aware of Static Electricity and German Vocab… Ich habe Pizza gegessen. (although I didn’t I actually made egg free Kedgeree!)

Oh and to top it all off, I ended up power-washing my tablet as that seemed to be causing problems too.. so now I need to reset that as well!

I really need to catch up on the blogs now, I am two days behind with my commenting. So watch out ladies I am on my way!

Tuesday 28th

I am a day late writing this, I am sorry, it has totally been one of those weeks.

Our son is now homeschooling. All our appointments for the next 10 days have been cancelled, and we are able to send him back to school (hopefully!) next Wednesday.

Yesterday was all about getting him back on track for homeschooling. He isn’t well, so its a struggle, but he does need to do his best to keep on-track with his lessons.

His symptoms are mainly a cough. His temperature has gone back down to normal. And to be honest if we didn’t know otherwise we would just assume he had a cold.

I had to pop out, so to avoid fuel related issues, I walked, got what I needed from the chemist and got back again. The sun was shining but it was a little chilly.

I tried getting some art done. I failed. I have signed up for the Lifebook taster 2 weeks. so far all I have achieved is to watch Kim Dellow‘s session and was able to doodle some marks on a couple of watercolour sheets. And that’s it!

I sat on the sofa last night, exhausted, and picked up colouring pencils and a colouring book and made a flower have colour! We watched The Great British Bake Off and S.W.A.T.

Well after that I was hoping for a good nights sleep….

What a day….

And no it is not a good one.

It started out OK, everyone up and ready for school/work without a hitch. Kids sent off, we went for our walk. Got home after a good brisk walk to find that the Lateral Flow Test that had been done by our boy as a “you are OK but you better do it anyway” has returned as a positive. So we start to rush around in mad panic, calling the school and arranging to go and get said boy from school. I still haven’t got out of workout gear. The school nurse says to a worried boy “I think mum has just been to the gym”… “err no she just goes walking everyday with Dad” came the thoughtful reply. He comes to me and before we even get of of reception he is in tears because he has a positive COVID test. I comfort him and tell him everything will be fine. He does another test once home and again it’s again positive… shit this cannot be happening! Anyway whilst I was off getting him Hubby was getting all the relevant information to what we do next. He has to have a PCR test done at an official COVID test site. So that got booked and off we go, but fortunately not before a shower and a change! Before we went he sent an email to all his teachers for today apologising that he wont be at school and could they please send him some work. It was a 20 min drive, we were done and through pretty quickly and back home before 11am. Some more emotions were had, but overall everyone was pretty calm about it. At this time the request is for the rest of us to do daily lateral flow tests and for our daughter to remain at school unless she gets a positive. So that’s where we are. One of us that has what looked like nothing more than a cold, is potentially COVID. Honestly he is looking sound and feeling a lot better and more like his normal self, so hopefully we have escaped lightly. We hope. We are waiting for the official result, 24-48 hours before we will know.

After all the running around, our day went back to homeschooling, and me making contact with as many known people that need to know as possible. Bang goes Scouts and Tennis for him. My haircut tomorrow is off. Possibly my college on Friday. Hubby is not going to the office this week. And yet its fine for Daughter to stay at school. It doesn’t make sense, and yet it does. We know it’s in the school, we know it was at Scouts last week. It was only a matter of time. But DAMN we have worked so F***king hard to keep everyone safe.

And to top it all my art Instagram account has been hacked!!!!! I have been logged out and the account disabled. I’ve had to go through the hoops to prove my identity, and yet its not been returned and I am without it for my art for at least 24 hours.

I hardly dare say it but what else can go wrong…. I’ve not achieved any art today. I’ve been crying on our daughters shoulder because I haven’t kept everyone safe and her brother is ill. She held me tight and told me it will be OK, and then hubby came along so she could let me be looked after by him. I know it will be OK. But when you are not their birth mum, there is an even bigger sense of responsibility for keeping them safe, and when you’ve been through what we’ve all been through, we just don’t need this sort of stress.

Oh I’ve just remembered the other thing that’s gone wrong today. My tablet has 2 power charge slots… one has stopped working.

Please … please let that be the end of it today…..

Here’s a picture of an owl just to make me feel better.

Day 26, Sunday

I’ts been a family day today, in that we have all been home, and not much has been done. Usual late morning and “big” breakfast. Its been a grey but warm day. Hubby carried on with his workshop make, kids had computer/tv time. And I made a start on a new “Birds Nest”, when I said I made a start, I taped down a sheet of paper and fit it to the easel!

I popped to the supermarket for a few supplies, and by then the F1 was about ready to start. We spent a couple of hours watching the F1 and being sad for Lando Norris making a bad call with tyres, which gave Hamilton the win. We are genuinely happy a Brit is in the lead, it’s just we are not the best of fans of Lewis Hamilton. Norris is a great young driver with a lot to learn. But Max Verstappen getting 2nd place was a fantastic result and showed how good a driver he is despite the start position! Anyway enough about that, I bet very few of you are interested in that 🙂

After this I made our meal, which was a couple of recipes from the Simple Things September Magazine. What sounded like simple sandwiches has had us full for hours!

Our son is feeling much better today. I think a good nights sleep on top of a fever ridden sleep and a good dose of Calpol (kids medicine/paracetamol) meant he has slept a lot of it off. He has been so much more himself today. We will get him to do another test in the morning but I’m happy he is OK and its just a cold. Phew!

The only art I have I have achieved today is a DTIYS by an Instagram friend ZoeHartist

Here is my attempt, I used Arteza brush pens, and a Uniball Signo Broad. I am hopefully going to dry it digitally too. I was the first to post it on IG, so I take that as a win 🙂

DTIYS

We have just watched a Sky Arts show on Van Gogh. It was lovely to watch and great lead up to next weeks class we were are to be learning about the man, and I think doing a study on his work. I’m super keen for next Friday!

It’s Sunday evening so that means an evening watching TV (Whitehouse and Mortimer) and chilling ready for Monday morning. Neither of us are into fishing, yet this show is amazing! Two men, British comedians, in their 50’s/60’s who are just having a lot of fun living. They have both had health scares, maybe that’s why we like it, maybe its because they just tell it like it is whilst having a laugh.

And Away….
