Today I decided to go supermarket shopping, and thanks to Cheryl post yesterday I decided to go to one of the out of town stores, and it just so happened to be right beside The Range. I have missed the arts and crafts stores, so I was at Sainsbury’s for 8am, at the Range for 9am and home again by 10:30am having spent a decent amount of money 🙂 which included new jeans and craft supplies (of course) for me, jeans for the boy, Harry Potter erasers and a Diamond Painting set for the daughter, and.. oops nothing for hubby – well does a new washing up bowl count??

Wanderlust Week 16, Dyan Reaveley
Wanderlust Wk 16, our tutor was Dyan Reaveley. I do feel a bit guilty that I don’t own a single piece of her art supplies, but I made do with my stash, and to be honest I think it came out pretty good. Warm colours of yellow, orange and magenta were used for the background and they were put on with a baby-wipe. Then using the same colours I stencilled with in rounds of 3 to create a triangle. Once dry I then doodled using a fine-liner and then added the black using a homemade stencil of a woman – representing the younger and grown up versions of me. I then stumbled for a question that the younger me could ask, and get a response.

Daily Notebook Art
I also completed my Daily Notebook challenge using my Mindful Giraffe notebook and Sharpies. The design inspiration came from an internet search, unfortunately the web page (one of those 20 things type pages) had a broken link and I couldn’t find anything about the original artist. Fortunately the image is quite different to the original so I don’t feel like I have “copied” as much as been inspired by.

Evening Doodle time
A piece of doodle art I completed yesterday evening, was from Scrawlrbox January box. They have just started having a weekly art prompt and this is the first one I’ve participated in. It was “flourish” which also happens to be my word of the year. I really enjoyed slowing down and doing this piece with Tombow Alcohol markers.

So I keep thinking about getting involved in digital art, its easy isn’t it, you just draw shapes on a screen and hey presto there is an image!. Well..that’s what I thought, but the reality is a bit different. I bought Affinity Designer for the windows laptop. I don’t have a drawing tablet, so its a mouse and cursor click all the way. Add to it that finding tutorials that are at such a beginner level (I haven’t used design software very much if at all before). Apparently Ipad and Procreate is what I should be using, but I’m not spending several hundred pounds just to find I don’t get along with the subject. Anyway, yesterday I found a web page with a tutorial on it, so I have given it a go. Several hours and a LOT of cussing later I have a finished picture. Yes I have learnt a lot, I definitely want to learn more, the software is vast, can do so much and is confusing when you are reading a tutorial for Ipad! It may not become my regular art form, but I do definitely want to learn and use this much more.
So here it is, what do you think for my first “real” picture design.
VW Beetle
Other than this I have also completed my day 19 notebook page. The test this time is with Sharpie pens. I was not quite feeling it this morning, and I went for easy peasy doodles. Im not happy with my page, but for a change its not the fault of the paper, its all down to my lazy design.

I saw a quote on Instagram today, and I just had to borrow it and write it for myself, the timing was perfect as today was HAIRCUT day!!! “I don’t have grey hair, I have Wisdom Highlights”
Wisdom Highlights
Thats it for me today, I’m off to find more digital art tutorials – after seeing the kids, dealing with the washing on the line, cooking tea, watching some TV etc etc etc!

Its been lovely here today in the East of England. Hubby and I went out for a nice walk we completed another 5.5 miles for our monthly target. It was warm and sunny with a gentle April breeze. We saw some deer, a heron and a baby duckling that was clearly lost but we named “speedy” as he sped away so quickly in the water.

When we got home both children had been watching TV in separate rooms, we had lunch then Hubby, Son and I watched the Formula 1 whilst Daughter returned to the TV. Fast cars don’t really do much for her! It was a pretty good race overall, rain, slips, slides, crashes, penalties and retirements with Max Verstappen winning the race and Lando Norris getting his second ever podium coming in 3rd.
My Art today has been limited, as I have been enjoying the day with the family. First up is my doodle which I started a couple of days ago but has been done mostly whilst watching the F1 today. This was a Scrawlrbox from August 20 and I hadn’t really played with the pens. They are Chameleon fine liners they have a 3 mm nib and colour changing caps. Put Pen 1 into Cap 2 for a maximum of 30 seconds and you can create a blended writing / doodle etc. I chose to draw flowers, create the blends and then used the grey to make dots to fill the background.

After this I did my daily challenge piece and today was the turn of the Scribble & Dot notebook. Its the cheapest of the three in the test and I have to say it performed the best in this ink test! Very little bleeding occurred and even where I pooled the ink (I’m still learning!) it really didn’t struggle too badly. I had to take the photo outside in the garden, as the evening light was casting an awful blue tint to all my photos. I also am the happiest with this page in terms of its overall composition. I think I am getting better at planning my ideas.

Well that’s about it for today. We’ve had our evening meal, kids have disappeared to their rooms, Hubby is on the X-Box and I’m writing to you. We have found out that the new IndyCar Season begins today, Romain Grosjean (last year was in F1 and had a horrific crash in Bahrain) is on TV at 8pm here in the UK, so we think maybe our evening viewing is sorted.. Now to decide what to do until then.. Hmmm a video tutorial on using Affinity Designer maybe?

Day 17 already! I am pretty amazed that I am still here to be honest, this is not my normal sort of challenge and it’s most definitely out of my comfort zone, I really did think I would have failed by now. But I’ve found I am enjoying it and I am enjoying reading so many other varied and interesting blogs. Most importantly I am finding it interesting thinking about what I might talk to you about. Will it be interesting enough, will it get a reaction, will it even be read? Then I’ve thought: Stop worrying and just do it, it doesn’t matter if its not read, its important that I show up and do the deed. So here I am again, day 17, ready to write …. something!
Yesterday we went to the beach, we had a glorious day. We left the house soon after I posted my blog page, drove to the coast, arriving at 9 am in Overstrand, parking at the clifftop car park. We walked along the cliff top into Cromer, we had taken our cameras so a few photo stops were had. Once we got to Cromer we carried on along the beach until we got to East Runton, then climbed the path into the village and walked back to Cromer along the main road. I made a quip about owning a caravan on the cliff top and suddenly we are now all about owning a holiday home somewhere… who would have thought it! Anyway we carried on back into Cromer and went to our favourite chip shop for lunch. Queuing outside and taking our chips to eat on the pier, I took a photo of our lunch looking out over the pier bars onto the sea. Then about 5 minutes later I burst into tears. Honestly I cannot believe it, the emotions of the last year, of being secluded at home, going no-where, being forced to be home just all came welling up. To be outside, free, without restrictions, in the fresh air, with hubby at the beach listening to waves crash, watching the seagulls watching our chips, it was all too much. I did not realise just how much I had missed being able to go out and do something so freeing. Anyway hubby was amazing, he looked after me, didn’t tell me I was silly, he understood and we talked. Eventually I pulled myself together, we finished our chips and we carried on back along the beach to the car park. In all we were at the beach for 4 hours and we walked 7.5 miles. We went home exhausted but happy.
We hit our half way point for our monthly walking challenge.
Last night I played with a couple of my scrawlrboxes and made some art.

Today has been a quiet day. We have been searching the options of owning some kind of holiday home on the Norfolk Coast. Lots of ideas, not much money, not much choice (everyone wants staycations this year as we probably wont get much foreign travel again!) We watched the Formula 1 Qualifying – Hamilton gets pole again (shock) but Perez and Verstappen get 2nd and 3rd place – that’ll do nicely thank you boys, good luck for tomorrow! Unsurprisingly Vettel is out of qually in the 2nd round. I do miss him being a challenger, but its SO good to see him in the green of the Aston Martin. Looking forward to the race tomorrow, Imola is always a good if emotional, track. RIP Senna and Ratzenburger.
My Notebook challenge yesterday and today is to use a Nib pen and Herbin Ink in the books. For this 3 day session I have Chosen a specific poem. I had not actually read it before, but its a lovely poem and seems to fit my spring time feeling, and also seems to fit me with trying to learn lettering (failing in this challenge) and test the pages – its definitely testing them! The Archer and Olive (most expensive) book yesterday definitely fared worse than today’s (mid priced) Mindful Giraffe book.

The day has been glorious here in Norfolk. I managed to get 3 loads of washing dried on the line, and yes I cheated and got the bed sheets done in the dryer. Cheeky but nice 🙂
We have just watched Prince Philips Funeral. The weather was wonderful. Glorious sunny day, barely a cloud in the sky. So good to see the family observing rules, and respectful of all the families around the world that have had to do similar limited services. All the readings and music chosen by Philip. A lovely respectful service befitting a graceful, down to earth Prince.

Just a quick hello this morning to say Hi. Guess what – we have PLANS for today!!! Hubby has the day off work, so we have shipped the children off out the door to school, and we are going OUT….. IN THE CAR… Together…. Somewhere OTHER THAN the village for a walk… Oh my golly gosh we are excited. We have charged up the cameras, the car has petrol, and we are readying ourselves for a walk, probably to the beach. Wish us luck!!
Breakfast Council meeting was held, and it was agreed upon that this could happen, because the Chairman is looking forward to an EMPTY house all day so that he can sleep!

I may post again later with my daily art which I will have to do this evening.
A little piece of colouring from last night was a free doodle page from PenPusher.
